Great Hills is a peaceful suburban community to Austin’s northwest, conveniently located alongside the intersection of Highway 183 and Loop 360. While much of this family-friendly neighborhood is quiet and residential, the sprawling outdoor Arboretum shopping center to its southeast provides an abundance of places to dine and shop. The neighborhood is also dotted with parks and green space.
Great Hills was first developed in the 1970s, and a diverse real estate mix has emerged here in the decades since. Great Hills’ spacious single-family homes come in a diverse array of architectural styles, with construction of new homes still continuing. There are also modern apartments and condominium buildings available.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
The Arboretum outdoor shopping complex contains more than 40 businesses arranged around a central fountain in a park-like design. Recognizable businesses here include Gap, Pottery Barn, Starbucks, and North Austin’s only Trader Joe’s. Dining options include steak and seafood fine dining with live jazz at Eddie V’s and great margaritas and Mexican food at Z’Tejas. The Domain is another sprawling outdoor shopping mall located within a short drive of Great Hills. The Domain features over 1.2 million square feet of retail space anchored by Neidman Marcus and Macy’s department stores. Other stores include high-end fashion brands such as Louis Vutton and high-quality restaurants including the nutritionally-conscious True Food Kitchen.
Things To Do
Large parks and greenbelts surround Great Hills. Great Hills Neighborhood Park extends over 80 acres to the neighborhood’s northwest, with 1.7 miles of maintained trails and many more rough trails winding into its wilderness. Many species of plant and animal life can be seen within the park, which also offers picnic areas, playgrounds, and exercise equipment. The private members-owned Great Hills Country Club is nestled within the heart of the community and offers an 18-hole golf course designed by Don January and Billy Martindale, along with a swimming complex, outstanding tennis and fitness facilities, and a new $12 million clubhouse due to be completed in 2020.
